When you buy a human hair weave, you soon come across terms such as Remy, Virgin, Double Drawn or Grandma. They are not brands – they describe how the hair is collected, sorted and processed. Here is what they actually mean and how to pick the quality that suits you.
Remy hair: aligned cuticles
“Remy” describes the collection method: all hairs are gathered in the same direction of growth. The cuticles – the thin layer of scales around each hair – stay intact and point the same way. As a result, the hair tangles much less, stays soft and keeps its natural shine.
Our Remy weave is available in Indian or Vietnamese hair, straight, wavy or curly, from 15 cm (6") to 90 cm (36"). With proper care it lasts up to one year.
Virgin hair: no chemical treatment
“Virgin” hair has never been chemically treated: no colouring, no bleaching, no perm. It is raw human hair that behaves like your own and can be coloured or straightened later.
Double Drawn: the same thickness down to the ends
In a standard weave, some of the hairs are shorter, so the ends are thinner than the root. For “Double Drawn” quality, the shorter hairs are removed by hand a second time. The bundle keeps the same thickness from root to tip, for full, voluminous hair from top to bottom.
Our Double Drawn Virgin weave combines both: virgin Indian hair and consistent thickness. It is the fullest quality in our range, available from 10 cm (4") to 60 cm (24").
Grandma: mature, thick and shiny hair
Grandma hair is donated by older women in India. It has a special structure: very thick and very shiny. Its colour ranges from natural black to dark brown, with a few grey hairs (around 10 to 15 per bundle). It can be straightened, waved and coloured, and lasts up to two years with proper care.
