Still called African basil, Tchayo (Fon name in Benin) is a green leafy vegetable used as a vegetable in many Tchayo recipes in Africa, especially in Benin and West Africa. Its scientific name is Ocimum gratissimum.
However, Tchayo is different from Ocimum basilicum, which is actually simple basil. As their scientific names show, these two plants are nevertheless from the same family, the Lamiaceae.
